ENOUGH ROPE with Andrew Denton |
|
(2003 - 2008)
This award-winning program has set the benchmark for interview programs in Australia, and over the course of six strong years it continued to find ways to grow and change, challenging itself and its audience.
As well as conducting extraordinary interviews with some of the world’s most famous people, Andrew also talked with some not usually found on the talk show circuit. It was not unusual for ENOUGH ROPE to feature Bill Clinton or John Travolta as a guest one week and, the next, to lead with three homeless people. Everyone has a story...
Using humour and original lines of questioning, Andrew managed to open up his guests in ways that even surprised them. An interview could run for five to fifty minutes. ENOUGH ROPE has won some of Australia’s top awards, including a Walkey in 2003 and four AFI awards in 2003, 2004, 2006 and again in 2008.
"He came back to the ABC in 2003 with Enough Rope, his unique mixture of interviews with the famous, the infamous and the not famous at all. Denton’s refusal to accept celebrity as a no-brainer criterion for guests on his show produces a rich, unpredictable mix of personalities and stories every Monday night".
"One of these is the way he lures his subjects into moments of frankness and vulnerability. How he does this is a bit of a mystery, not least to his guests as they find themselves spilling beans as yet unmasked-for and letting feral cats out of bags. It has something to do with physical stillness in conversation, which is both an extreme contrast to his energy when on his feet and the most visible manifestation of his intense focus: he seems to be one of those people who makes you feel, when he talks to you, as though you are the only person in the world".
"Denton has a gift for making a space into which people feel willing to speak". -The Monthly CLICK HERE to visit the official website.
